The last day of Obon, a holiday which celebrates, with food, prayers, drinking, and eisa, the three-day long visit of the ancestors to earth from the spirit world. A couple of our Japanese friends, Yoshitomo, also affectionately known as "Bambo", and his brand new wife, Ruka, invited us out to see the best of the best Eisa teams. The Goya team and the Sondong team. These two teams, both hailing from the Goya and the Sondong neighborhoods of Okinawa City, supposedly represent "true" Eisa. Shirking off the forces of change like women drummers and new modern songs. Here's a video:
