Adventure...less

Hi ho. Kelly here. I'm posting just to post because, sadly, there's been somewhat of a dearth of adventure here. Would that I had fascinating tidbits of Japanialia for you daily. But oh not, not me, because my life nowadays follows this basic daily routine: wake up, plan lessons, go to work, listen to crappy Armed Forces Network radio shows, teach some classes, eat a granola bar, go to Starbucks, plan more classes, watch Oprah, eat leftovers, teach more classes, watch more TV, the end.

What is up with that?

What is up with me going to Starbuck's for goodness sake? Why not go somewhere where the menu is in Japanese? It's like I'm trying to be boring!

I've settled into a hum drum American life here. I've stopped trying to learn Japanese. I've stopped eating Japanese food. Something must change. I need to challenge myself. My goal then this week is to:

a) Not plan classes at Starbucks.
b) Instead plan at places I keep wanting to visit but keep putting off: Cafe Le Blanc, Cafe Kitchen (Yes. Realize they're not Okinawan, but at least not American coffee chain.)
c) Learn 2 or 3 new Japanese phrases which I will practice with students and report success of on blog.
d) Shop at local grocery store and/or produce market.
e) Exercise off base - jogging on village track. If have enough courage, join old people in morning exercises routine.

They are humble ambitions. But, hopefully, do-able. So...wish me luck.

-K
